How can meaningful healthcare innovation reach beyond well-equipped hospitals? Founded in January 2026, Sakaleshpur Shiva Shankara brings together pediatric medicine and engineering to explore practical, affordable approaches to newborn and child health.
We begin with challenges encountered in neonatal care, keeping the needs of children, families and frontline clinicians at the centre of our research.
Our focus is on interventions that could become practical in rural, peripheral and resource-limited healthcare settings.
Materials research, formulation development and careful preclinical evaluation guide each step toward future translation.
NeoLumo investigates a topical zinc oxide nanoparticle nanogel and its potential to support bilirubin photodegradation under controlled light exposure.
Our aim is to build the evidence needed to assess whether this approach could contribute to more accessible neonatal jaundice care.
Characterise zinc oxide nanoparticles—their structure, size, morphology and dispersion behaviour—to inform formulation decisions.
Refine the nanogel matrix and evaluate stability, concentration and compatibility through laboratory studies.
Study bilirubin photodegradation under controlled conditions, with repeat experiments and kinetic analysis.
The research plan includes preclinical assessment of local tolerability, systemic absorption and biological effects before any clinical translation.
Our programme moves from material characterisation to formulation, laboratory evaluation and planned preclinical studies. Each stage informs the next.
Establish the physical and chemical properties of the research material.
Optimise the formulation and investigate its stability and compatibility.
Examine photodegradation, concentration effects and repeatability.
Progress through the required ethical oversight and preclinical evaluation.
Five interactive learning modules created by Dr. Vikram Sakaleshpur Kumar. Developed in India for healthcare learners everywhere, with respect for local protocols and resource settings. Choose a topic, learn at your own pace, and return to practise. Free registration takes less than a minute and requires no password.
Enter your name and email, then continue straight to your selected module. Where progress is saved locally, use the same browser and device to resume.
A structured approach to recognising the unwell child, assessing major systems, and thinking through referral and care in different resource settings.
Start learningExplore pediatric emergency assessment, respiratory problems, shock, arrhythmias and resuscitation through lessons, knowledge checks and learning tools.
Start learningA mastery-based learning pathway through newborn resuscitation and stabilisation, with checkpoint questions, spaced retrieval and simulation resources.
Start learningWork through clinical decisions, metabolic patterns and patient journeys, from recognising a possible metabolic disorder to continuing care in India.
Start learningAn edition-specific learning companion covering preparation, ventilation, team performance and newborn care. Based on the 8th edition and 2020-era science; distinct from the 2025 module above.
Start learningA shared commitment to practical healthcare innovation brings our founders together in Shivamogga, Karnataka.
